Linux
What can I say about Linux? I came across Linux in the early 90's when I worked for Digital. There aren't many things that you can truly say have changed your life (and especially not software), but Linux changed mine.

ALPHA LINUX
This is where it all started for me. This is where I met Maddog, Linus and a lot of other really nice revolutionaries. Here is a history of Linux on Alpha. I think that Maddog and I co-authored this for some magazine, although there are comments from Linus and others. From left to right, Donnie Barnes, me (asleep), Erik Troan, Jay Estabrook and David Mosberger-Tang. This was taken in at a Linux conference

MADDOG
This is Jon Maddog Hall, we spent a day looking around Oxford. Here we're up St Mary's tower. This was the day that Maddog met the Queen Mother.
THE LINUX KERNEL
I wrote this when I was still at Digital. I donated to the Linux Documentation Project but no one has ever taken it on. It is now somewhat out of date (it refers to the 2.0 kernel series). Anyway, here is my html version of it. There are copies at the Linux Documentation Project . They shouldn't differ from mine. Red Hat 8.0 allows XML/Docbook to just work, maybe I'll look at at least moving the sources away from LaTeX.MILO
My Alpha Linux contributions were to the PCI subsystem and to MILO, the Alpha Linux MIniLOader. Here’s a Linux Journal article .
